2009 was the second year in business for the American Wrestling Alliance, running from the February 7 edition of Saturday Night Wrestling to the conclusion of the Stampede Cup on December 26.
2009 saw the first AWA event taking place outside of Texas (June 20’s edition of Saturday Night Wrestling), as well as the first edition of SuperClash, featuring a main event of Stevie Scott defending the National Title against Juan Vasquez. Vasquez was featured in another first earlier in the year – the first singles cage match, against Raphael Rhodes at No Escape.
